Genesis new factory in Kunshan began construction

Recently, LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Genesis Photonics has began construction for its joint venture with the Kunshan city government in China.


The first stage engineering of the joint venture will host 50 sets of MOCVD machines. In the new factory, Genesis has held 51% stake, and Kunshan city government has held the other stake.

The new factory will start production in Q3 of 2011 and will be the largest LED chip and lighting manufacturing base in China.

At the same time, Genesis has been building one new factory in Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) with a capacity of 35 MOCVD machines, and planed to add another 20 sets to the second factory at the STSP. At the end of 2010, Total MOCVD machines will reach 55 sets and produce 120,000 LED chips every month.

Genesis noted that lighting business has accounted for over 20% of its total revenues. Channels for its products were fully established, including B2B, B2C and B2G.

For B2B, Genesis has cooperated with Japan-based JFE Engineering for market and lighting product development in Japan. For B2C, Genesis has entered the Japan retail channel and planed to enter Taiwan's retail channel in 4Q 10, while for B2G, the company cooperation with Kunshan city government has estimated joint venture.
