A young engineer in 1962 named Nick Holonyak, Jr. at General Electric developed what we know today as the light emitting diode, or LED for short. Italian based studio Alburno has recreated the original LED prototype, called the LED 1.0.

The LED 1.0 is a representation of the original LED design from the 1960’s. It is inspired by the concept that only time can lead to full awareness of the value of an idea, a discovery, and an institution.

The lamp is fashioned in the typical style of the 1960’s and comes in various colors including bottle green, tobacco, and cobalt blue. The glass is hand blown by Italian artisans and the base is constructed from walnut wood and sienite stone.
