Because there are around 400 million patients, suffering from diabetes in the world, blood glucose monitoring market has high potential. Most blood glucose monitors are invasive. To achieve non-invasive IR optical sensing, the main keys are the accuracy of calculating program, cooperation of medical organizations and FDA certification.

In 2017, the FDA selected nine companies such as APPLE, Fitbit and Samsung to participate in the Pre-Cert for Software pilot program. The manufacturers could interact with end users directly to provide more convenient user interface and content, making the development of digital health market stable. It is a triple win situation for insurance companies, consumers and wearable device suppliers.

In terms of the insurance policy with wearable device released by insurance company, with the daily information provided by wearable device, accurate insurance premium calculation and claim can be offered. Besides, consumers can receive insurance discounts, increasing the value added and market sales for wearable device manufacturers. The cooperative development between digital health, medical institutions and insurance companies will become the major trend in the future.

If the non-invasive blood glucose monitor released, it can largely increase the demands on wristband and smartwatch markets and bring great comfort and convenience for more than 400 million patients who suffer from diabetes in the world. According to LEDinside, currently the non-invasive IR optical sensing adopts far infrared, near infrared or multi-spectrum. In addition, the trend which IR LED replaced by VCSEL has occurred.
