ntly, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announced its OSTAR Headlamp LED have been selected to power the headlights of Cadillac Escalade Platinum sports utility vehicle (SUV).

The Cadillac Escalade Platinum, scheduled to be launched this year, is claimed to be the first SUV with LED headlights as standard. OSRAM LEDs powered the functions in the headlights supplied by Hella KGaA Hueck & Co.

Hella equipped the new headlights entirely with LED in the typical vertical Cadillac style, with each headlight containing seven OSTAR Headlamp LEDs—five for low beam and two for high beam. Daytime running light is provided by dimming the low beam, eliminating the need for an extra light source that is only possible with LEDs. Each headlight also has a position light with white Advanced Power TopLEDs and a side marker light with yellow Power TopLEDs.

The OSTAR Headlamp LED was developed specifically to meet the requirements of Hella, and among the brightest LEDs for use in the automotive sector. With a color temperature of 5500°K, much higher than the 4000°K of xenon light, the tiny light sources create a light with the same color impression as natural daylight. In addition, the OSTAR can withstand ambient temperatures from -40°C ~ 125°C.
