The San Antonio arts community was on hand at the lighting of the dynamic color lighting the Alamo, a historical Texas landmark. Philips Solid State Lighting Solutions of Burlington, Massachusetts USA, illuminated the important symbol of Texas liberty and American history. The temporary installation was reportedly the first time the Alamo was illuminated on a grand scale. The installation demonstrating the ease with which LED lighting can transform venues for special occasions. Rental and production companies are increasingly turning to the ease of installation, control, and ability to produce millions of colors that LEDs provide
The Alamo served as the backdrop for a visually striking light installation held in conjunction with Luminaria, a one-day celebration of San Antonio's diverse artistic community. Bill FiztGibbons of Blue Star Contemporary Art Center conceived the design and installation using Philips ColorBlast 12 fixtures. According to the company, the ColorBlast 12 fixture combine LED sources with digital control technology produce near-endless color combinations. FitzGibbons refers to these art installations as "architectural interventions," emphasizing the dynamic effects that are made possible with ColorBlast 12 fixtures.
