ILION — A test run with light-emitting diodes from Fiberdyne Energy in Frankfort could lead to LEDs replacing as many as 61 streetlights in Ilion.
Officials in Ilion announced the pilot project during a news conference at 6:30 p.m. on Jun 01.
The LED street lighting fixtures are expected to reduce energy consumption by about 50 percent, according to an Ilion news release.
Fiberdyne Energy President Jim Gelose said the company worked on a feasibility study to select LED fixtures appropriate to replace Ilion's streetlights.
Ilion Mayor Mark Cushman said the village Municipal Utilities Board is doing a "fantastic job of finding energy solutions that make both good fiscal and environmental sense."
