It’s reported that Merck KGaA aims to take a leading position in the future market for OLED, which may become the new technology for displays in mobile phones, computers and TVs.
Merck is the world's largest maker of liquid crystals, the key chemical in most flat-panel displays currently in use. OLED-based screens are thinner and more energy efficient but are less durable than current liquid-crystal or plasma-based panels. According to chief executive Karl-Ludwig Kley’s forecast, it will take at least until 2030 before OLED TVs will take over liquid-crystal televisions.
