Recently, Matsushita Electric Works Ltd released insect-repellent lighting equipment-LED Light Up Lighting Equipment, whose "insect attraction index" is about two-thirds lower compared with the product of the same luminance. The company released two white-color types and two light bulb-color types of the lighting equipment Aug 25, 2008, in Japan.

Because LED lamps hardly emit ultraviolet rays with the wavelengths that attract bugs, Matsushita could reduce by two thirds the insect attraction index, which shows the insect attractiveness of light radiation, compared with a fluorescent mercury lamp. In addition, while the new lighting equipment is as bright as the company's small-size halogen bulb projector, the power consumption of the lighting equipment is 24.3W, about 63% lower than that of the projector.
The light fluxes of the white-color types and the light bulb-color types are 970lm and 800lm, respectively. The product life is 40,000 hours, eliminating the need for lamp maintenance for about 10 years. The dimensions of the lighting equipment, which is mounted with 27 LED lamps, are 360 × 263 × 67mm. The chassis is available in two colors, medium gray metallic and cool white.
