It’s reported that Para Light Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading Taiwanese LED packager, won a contract to supply LED emitters to a leading auxiliary-lighting manufacturer in the United States, which sells lighting products to major retailers stateside.
The order will see the Taiwanese supplier ship 10 million emitters a month stateside. Para Light’s executives pointed out the client sells lighting products to marts like Costco. According to Para Light president, Y.H. Wu, once his company’s emitters are accepted by the retail marts, his company stands a better chance to expand sales in the United States.
Para Light has started its plan to enter into the low-temperature lighting segment and sent samples for verification by several major U.S. manufacturers of temperature-controlled containers. The recent U.S. order is estimated to help boost Para’s revenue to NT$1.5 billion throughout next year, up from this year’s NT$1.2 billion.
Last quarter alone, Para Light had record high revenue of NT$327 million and made pre-tax earnings of NT$31 million, which more than doubles that it made the same period of last year. In the Jan.-Sept. period, the company had pre-tax earnings of NT$58 million, slightly exceeding the NT$57 million it made throughout last year.
Along with the company’s packaging factory in Jiangsu Province unveiled recently, Para aims to make production more profitable by further cutting cost. The factory called for investment capital of US$15 million and is projected to generate revenue amounting to 150 million Chinese yuan a year. At the unveiling ceremony, the company’s chairman, J.P. Ma, noted the factory would create 2,000 jobs and help boost the company’s gross margin by two percentage points due to the low labor costs and tax breaks in the province.
Ma said mainland China would not only become the world’s biggest producer of LED lamps but also the biggest market for such lamps. The factory will put out 60 million LED emitters, including 20 million SMD devices and three million diodes for displays.
