Recently, Philips Lumileds has delivered tens-of-millions of cool, neutral and warm white LUXEON Rebel power LEDs at all performance levels delivering the quality, color and uniform light output needed by the lighting industry.
LUXEON Rebel power-LEDs, including those that deliver 100 or more lumens and efficacy greater than 90 lumens per watt, are now broadly available. The company’s ongoing investments and technology developments have positioned it well to support the tremendous growth in lighting segments expected in 2009.
Steve Barlow, Executive Vice President of Sales for Philips Lumileds, noted this has been a pivotal year in the lighting industry as adoption of their LUXEON Rebel power-LEDs has driven substantial growth in solid-state lighting. LUXEON Rebel has enabled customers’ expansion into new segments such as refrigeration lighting, street lighting and indoor recessed lighting.
New solid-state lighting applications are only made possible with a sustainable supply of power LEDs at specific and repeatable color temperatures. The ability of luminaire designers to produce consistent color and uniform light output from luminaire to luminaire enables rapid growth in applications such as retail parking, commercial and residential area lighting, and office lighting.
Meeting the industry’s need for illumination-grade power LEDs has required technical advancements in all LED development areas. Although thin-film-flip-chip technology has driven substantial gains in light output, phosphor technology advancements are required to deliver the white light quality and uniformity necessary to meet the lighting community’s expectations not only for initial operation but for color uniformity consistency over time and temperature as well. Every advancement in chip, phosphor and package technology achieved by Philips Lumileds makes it easier for lighting companies to develop applications.
