Macroblock introduces a new step-down DC/DC converter, MBI6651, to drive 1A output current with efficiency up to 93%. With merely 0.45ohm of switch ON resistance, MBI6651 reduces the power consumption on IC at rated voltage. Additionally, the internal start-up scheme eliminates the inrush current and limits it within 1.15 times of preset current. Besides, MBI6651 features constant current and provides uniform brightness with excellent output current accuracy up to ±5%(Max.). Designed with these advanced features, MBI6651 provides the best solution for applications in signage, decorative lighting (MR16), street lighting and automotive lighting.

                            

By applying the hysteretic PFM control scheme, the MBI6651 not only prevents ICs from noise interruption but also enhances system stability. Most important of all, MBI6651 manages well with high current in optimizing excellent power efficiency up to 93% when lighting up 3 LEDs at 12V input voltage and 1A output current.

To ensure the system reliability, the MBI6651 builds thermal protection function which protects IC from overheating (165°C) in various application conditions. Other protection schemes include Under Voltage LockOut (UVLO), LED open-circuit and short-circuit protection to avoid IC from being damaged.

MBI6651 is available to operate over an input of 9 to 36V and output current of 350mA to 1A for high power LED applications. Besides the package of TO-252, MBI6651 also offer space - saving and thermal – enhanced packages of SOT-23 and MSOP-8.
