TXU Energy has just had its parking garage retrofitted with LEDs to reduce energy costs. Lighting Science Group Corporation announced yesterday the completion of the retrofit after replacing the existing 175 watt metal halide light fixtures with state-of-the-art 78 watt light-emitting diode (LED) low bay parking garage fixtures for the garage.
A global leader in LED lighting solutions, Lighting Science has retrofitted the parking garage of TXU Energy with 53 pyramid-shaped low bay parking garage fixtures which will help save TXU Energy's energy consumption by 54,700 kilowatt hours each year, equivalent to the carbon sequestered by nearly 880 trees in ten years. It is the first garage project of its kind in North Texas and among a handful of similar projects in the state.
The pyramid shaped garage fixtures from Lighting Science are made up of 108 LED light sources. The units are arranged in a way that if one light source fails, the others will continue to work all the same. These LED light sources emit cool white light with excellent color rendering, providing good night vision and security for TXU employees. The useful life of the LED fixtures is up to 50,000 hours, comparing with 10,000 hours for a 175 watt metal halide lamp, substantially reducing maintenance frequency and cost for the organizations.
LEDs represent a new energy-conserving and sustainable technology. They contain no mercury or other hazardous materials typically used in other traditional light sources such as fluorescent and compact fluorescent lighting.
