Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Lumileds Singapore Pte. Ltd. announced today that, as part of its ongoing program to protect and enforce its LED patent portfolio, it has filed several patent infringement actions in the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Europe against Xiaomi Communications Co., Ltd. (and related entities)(action numbers UPC-CFI-0001422/2025, UPC-CFI-0001423/2025 and UPC-CFI-0001718/2026) seeking a determination of liability for use and infringement of European Patent Nos. EP 2 446 486, EP 3 161 556 and EP 2 335 295 in the manufacture, use and sale of Xiaomi’s mobile phones containing infringing light emitting diodes. These infringement actions target Xiaomi’s activities in Germany and France.

If the UPC determines that the patents are infringed, the Defendants will have to refrain from using the patented technology which could result in a stop of sales of Xiaomi mobile phones in Germany and France. Subsequent proceedings would be required to determine damages. All timelines remain subject to potential rights of appeal and other customary proceedings in European patent litigation.

Lumileds’ broad LED and microLED patent portfolio reflects decades of sustained investment in research and development. This portfolio and the technology it protects are foundational to the quality and performance of Lumileds products, delivering significant benefits to customers.
